I booked Ford Mustang. The car I got was just old: almost 30K miles on odometer. I could never get windows fully closed. Alamo team is nice and responsive. Puck up and drop off were perfect.

Shuttle was convenient and driver was very helpful and informative. The car was clean and sufficient for our needs. Overall, it was a smooth and easy getting in and out- exactly what you want when traveling.
Price was more expensive than the estimated quote from kayak.
Cons: As they ramp up from the pandemic you may experience delays getting your car. It took 50 minutes before our car was ready. They were receiving and cleaning cars and sending them right back out.

Cons: Horrible experience at pick-up. Had to wait for over an hour to get a car, sitting on the pavement. Alamo did not have the cars to cover the reservations. Manager gave me, and others, a free tank of gas (by telling us to return the cars without filling up the gas tank) as an apology for the mess at pick-up. That was considerate, but, when i dropped the car off i was given no receipt from Alamo. When i checked my credit card statement, I saw that Alamo had charged me nearly $70 more than the rental agreement. Clearly, that was for filling up the gas tank that I was told to return empty as a courtesy. I sent Alamo an email two days ago about this. NO response so far.
Cons: One hour to get the car, and not what I wanted

The $28 taxi ride with Kona Taxi from the airport to the Enterprise office was well worth it. He picked us up on time right next to the baggage claim and to our car. The Dodge Charger was very comfortable for the two of us. Kona Taxi was waiting for us at the Enterprise office at 6:15AM to take us to the airport for our return flight. Dropped the key in Enterprise's night drop slot. It was easy.

Staff was very friendly and accommodating.
They didn't have an Fast Pass to offer us then tried to change us $15 per toll that we got charged for. We also got a ticket because their registration stickers weren't up to date.

the only thing that could have been better was the overall condition of the interior ..fair amount of wear and tear, but service, comfort, size, functionality was worth the rental price and pick up and drop were convenient as was the shuttle. in Kona
It was a bit confusing to go through Alamo for Entereprise, but all went fairly smoothly.
They were VERY uncooperative with working with airline cancellations--to the point of cancelling our reservation when we could not pick the car up in Kona Hawaii due to being stuck in LA because our flight was cancelled,m
Pros: Staff was friendly, very clear about the pickup and dropoff process, even though I didn't pick up my car from Enterprise (per instructions from the rental agency)
Cons: I wish they'd had the car I'd reserved ready. Originally they tried pushing a crossover on me and even the car I got was not the one I reserved. Given how expensive gas is in Hawaii, I reserved a compact on purpose, and was disappointed to not receive one.

Improve the cleaning process on your vehicles. The inside and outside were dirty and could of used a wash. The vehicle is only 2 years old but looked a lot older. Staff are awesome and helpful!

Off airport location with very limited office hours. Couldn't drop off at another location and the counter person was not very pleasant. I reserved a mid size car and he said he only had compact cars left. I argued with him until he found another car. I should not have had to do that to get what I paid for.
They tricked us into upgrading the car. They asked if we wanted to upgrade. We said no. They then said it would be an additional 50 dollars a day. We said "oh". I guess they took that as a yes? Next thing we know we are looking at the receipt and it seems they upgraded us with 50 dollars a day additional without us ever saying "yes, let's upgrade".
Given the tight squeeze of rental cars during this period, we were grateful to find this one at a fairly reasonable price. However, it was hard to confirm details with a real representative prior to arrival (did we need to reserve a car seat, etc.). The number to call repeatedly wanted to direct me to just check my booking online. As a plus though, the actual pick up was a breeze, the car was roomier than we expected, and drop off was effortless!
It took 2 hours to pick up the car once we got to the rental site. The rental location is off site, no shuttle from the airport to the rental location. $30.00 plus tip for a cab each trip to pick up and drop off the car at the rental site One agent working three different rental agencies. The mid- sized SUV was not available so he gave us a very small SUV but wouldn't adjust the price . The inside of the windshield was filthy which we discovered driving in the dark and in rain, I could hardly see out. The car was so uncomfortable, the seat wouldn't adjust up. Final straw- the man in front of us paid $600.00 less and got the exact car (last one available) that we had reserved! Never again!!

Pros: The car got good MPG and was a good price considering the high demand of rental cars
Cons: Contrary to Hertz' statements about cleaning every car meticulously as part of their COVID protocol, the car had very obviously not been cleaned. There was a white substance that was likely sunscreen on every commonly touched area of the car (steering wheel, arm rests, door, etc), there was trash underneath the seats, dirt in crevices, dust on the dashboard, there was even sunscreen remnants on the exterior of car. I would expect a much higher level of cleanliness if this company were, in fact, keeping up with COVID protocols per their statements.

Getting to old for sport cars. But it was fun riding.
With traffic the car was dropped off an hour past the 24 hour rate and was charged $182 for that hour. Disgraceful and will never rent from Budget again and moving the whole company account away from it. For reference, the day rate was already pricey at $265 a day but one hour extra at $182. Not the way to do business and will take mine elsewhere.

Customer service people were great…
The door panel looked like they were cover in sunscreen or something else. BUT when the guy checked in my car and saw I little sand in the carpet, He said "F**K out loud. Well I get it, it's apart of the job when you work on a island. we all tried to do a good job keeping sand out of it. My 9 year old asked if he said the " F " I had to tell him we must have misunderstood him. We did not. Other than that it was a good car.

Cons: Better hospitality at the pick-up counter.
Cons: The quality of vehicle did not match the price. The keep was beat up and had no modern features. The soft top was not secure and did not operate properly.

Easy to take the shuttle, no lines, fast service. We did have another renter drive up next to us when we were returning the car that came way to close to fast as we were opening the car door and startled my passenger. Maybe a cone out would have prevented this from happening as it could have been a dangerous situation. Not your fault as it was not your employee but to prevent it in the future is good all around.
It was good - it could've been faster.
The vehicle (a full sized suv) didn't have anywhere near enough cargo space for the 6 of us. Also, the car was given to me with half a tank of gas and they wouldn't allow a second (spouse) driver without additional fees. Not to mention the ~$150 in fees added on after I had been told by Kayak that I was "paid in full".

The rental office seemed under-staffed. There was a long line out the door with people standing under the hot sun. We got lucky and arrived just before the big rush but still took 45 minutes to get our rental, which had been reserved. I would guess the people behind me could have taken 1.5-2 hours to get through, at the rate customers were being processed. We were offered an upgrade to a 15-seater full-size van in place of 2 mini-vans, but it ended up being a 12-seater. We actually had 13 people but made do with the youngest sitting on her mother's lap since we didn't want to spend more time at the rental office. The van was low-mileage though looked well-worn though clean enough. Check-out was much easier.

I couldn't even pick up my car bc that specific location closed and had no after hours help. other open locations at the time were not able to provide a rental car, so overall I feel it was very poor service that I never received and was never refunded for.
Didn't like anything. Couldn't go to Hawaii because of COVID restrictions and dollar wouldn't refund us.
Long wait to pick up the car (supposedly due to Covid but really didn't understand why the office could only hold three customers at a time - especially when the sign said 5). Got lectured by the check-in agent about the myriad problems and restrictions that were supposedly a result of all cars being sold out, but then no one was in the lot when we left to collect our paperwork or damage report. Car was fine overall.
I asked to pick it up at tge airport but needed to get an expensive Uber to take me to a hotel 20 miles away and pay and addtional $75 to leave it at the airport upon returning. Serious bummer to say the least after getting up at 4am to make my long flight it was exhausting.
I had to exchange vehicles due to low tire pressure with one of the tires. It was inconvenient to go back for the exchange.
The process was quick and easy. The representative was very helpful.
Car was not cleaned well before we picked it up. There was dirt on the side walls inside and a half used water bottle under the front passenger seat. The driver door handle was missing the keyhole cover. The rear bumper was broken. The backup camera was faulty causing it to beep at all times when the car was in reverse. The passenger rear window did not close all the way leaving a triangle shaped gap in between the front and back window, thus allowing water in.
I felt like we were price gouged on our rental. We were charged $1,337.25 on our 6 day rental. When we arrived in Kona, the rental prices were 1/3 of the cost. I asked for a price reduction....none. I will NEVER use Priceline or Dollar Rental Car again and I will make sure all of my friends and family don't either!!! Terrible companies...absolutely 💯 NO customer satisfaction here!!!
In the future, we will work directly with Dollar vs. going through Kayak. the insurance provided through Kayak doesn't cover lack of use in the case of an accident. Also, we could have gotten a better rate had we gone directly through Dollar. This review isn't about Dollar - it's about Kayak.

Shuttle is totally inadequate. After waiting in the sun for 45 minutes for the National shuttle we gave up on renting a car and caught a taxi to our hotel. Don't need that level of aggravation on vacation.
We had to return the car twice. Finally the third car worked.

National worked jointly with Alamo and Enterprise to expedite rentals on September 3rd. There was a large crowd of renters in one parking lot, so it took a while to locate the cars and release them through the gate. The staff worked expeditiously under stressful circumstances and everyone eventually got out. The return was flawless. I was in and out in 5 minutes or less. The van drivers were courteous, friendly, and ready to assist.
Staff was great but the rental office was very crowded even though several staff members were working hard to get everyone on the road.

Rented via kayak which went through National…because of staffing shortages Alamo, National and Enterprise all combined into Alamo. Was greeted quickly by an associate, Sasu. She was great and we were provided excellent service.

Pros: The staff was very nice and didn't try to over-sell extras. I loved the Jeep! Relatvely quick in-and-out of the office.
Cons: Drop-off was confusing because it was at Alamo. A small sign posted on National's office door was the only indication to return the car at Alamo. A large sign that can be read from the street is needed!

Payless employee who handled our rental had his mask under his nose or down on his chin most of the time he was waiting on us. There was no attempt to enforce even a tiny bit of social distancing in the line where we stood for about 40 minutes. I had to fend off the person behind me who thought leaving a foot between us was too much. Your shuttle drivers were extremely courteous and helpful.

Pros: The staff was so nice and friendly. I had to wait about 5 minutes before I spoke to an agent which was fine. Then we had about a 8 minute wait till the car arrived. It was clean and good for us.
Cons: I'm not sure I agree with the "film the car as insurance that you got it in this condition". In Maui I had a real person with a different company and I like that more.

Windows were dirty but manageable
Drop off was super easy. Pickup was a nightmare. :( Nice people doing their best but severely understaffed.
While the staffs were fun and helpful, yet: (1) they did not sufficiently inform us that we need to paddle for 3 miles and this was not appropriate/doable with young children. (2) more importantly, they also did not pay attention to one of the kayaks as it got out of control, flipped by the waves, and put the amateur kayakers at serious risk of injury from hitting the cliff rocks. They were fortunate that were not hurt.

Cons: I paid for insurance when booking through KAYAK and was then told there was no insurance on the car. This was an unpleasant surprise after a flight. Travelling with a baby (after a flight) I didn't have the luxury of time to go through emails and booking details to find out where the confusion (or dishonesty) was. Turned out I bought separate insurance not linked to Avis and the car through KAYAK. So I ended up paying twice and the overall deal was a lot more expensive than it should have been. The Avis attendant also wouldn't stop chatting unnecessarily so I couldn't concentrate on the business of getting the car asap and my family to our accommodation. The car was OK but not clean enough but I guess acceptable for a rental.

Cons: The agent expected us to do our own car walkaround and record the results on a form attached to the key. There were several marks on the car - we took photos of the car in the rental parking lot to be safe. Be sure you do a walkaround before leaving with the car.
Disaster!
Cons: April 2018: The absolute WORST rental car experience I have experienced. Worst of any retail/service experience, for that matter. Over 1 hour in line to get to the counter, only to be given my paperwork and then told to wait outside for another 45 minutes for the car! Management has created a culture of not caring about the customer, and it shows. Staff are surly, slow and uncaring. Exception: Phillip who took pity and went to get our car despite it not being his job. Do not subsidize this failed business and it's incompetent management.
